How "Teach a Caveperson to Read" Works
It makes the letter/grapheme look like a picture, with a sound association.
It introduces the letter/picture with the corresponding sound. It does not mention the name of the letter, only its sound.
You will teach decoding from the first two letters - instant success.
Each new addition is combined with the letters already learned.
You will present words to be read one at a time, either by writing them one by one on the board, in a notebook, or by giving out a small card for each word. This method is success driven and it is not discouraging. It builds a feeling of accomplishment.
When the student is working, you will reinforce the grapheme/sound correspondence by reminding them of the picture.
